September 25, 2019 | Men's Rowing
Former Terrier Alex Dillon ('16) has been named assistant coach of the Boston University men's rowing team, head coach Thomas Bohrer announced this week. In addition, Alex Perkins has been promoted to first assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Dillon, who rowed for BU from 2012 to 2016, most recently served as the head coach of the Boston College men's rowing team. During his time at BC he grew the program's roster from 35 to over 50 and guided the varsity eight boat to a second-place finish at the 2019 American Collegiate Rowing Association - Club Rowing Championships.
"I am very excited to have Alex Dillon join the men's rowing coaching staff," said Bohrer. "He had a very solid rowing career while at BU so he understands the type of student-athlete that will succeed at BU in the classroom, on the water and in the community. He is passionate about the program and will articulate that well to our current team members and those we are recruiting. Alex proved himself as an up and coming coach with his time at Boston College where he served as both the freshman and head coach. I know that Alex will bring a new energy to the program and the team is looking forward to working with him."
A native of Port Republic, N.J., Dillon graduated from Boston University in 2016 with a BA in international relations.
With the addition of Dillon, Bohrer also announced that current assistant coach Alex Perkins has been promoted to first assistant and recruiting coordinator.
"In his three years at BU, Alex Perkins has worked tirelessly in bringing our squad to a higher level and has connected worldwide with prospective student athletes," said Bohrer. "He has earned the respect of our team members and I am truly appreciative of his commitment and loyalty to our program and excited that he is taking the next step in his coaching career."
A four-time IRA National Championship team member, Perkins was named an assistant coach of the Boston University men's rowing team back in July, 2016. Perkins is a 2015 graduate of the University of Washington where he sat in the stroke seat for the Huskies' varsity eight boat that won gold at the IRAs during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons and was also a four-time Henley Royal Regatta Finalist.
