Navy Uses Late Surge to Defeat Terriers, 46-41

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Trailing by 11 points late in the second quarter, the Boston University women's basketball team stormed back to take a five-point advantage in the waning minutes of the fourth, but Navy put in five points over the final six seconds to come away with a 46-41 outcome Wednesday night at Alumni Hall.
Katie Nelson led Terriers in scoring with 15 points, adding 13 of those in the second half. Maren Durant set a new career high in rebounds for the second straight game, grabbing 14 rebounds to go with six points.

How It Happened
- Following a slow start, Nia Irving and Sydney Johnson scored on back-to-back possessions to put the Terriers ahead, 4-0, with 6:40 left in the first.
- BU held Navy to go 0-for-9 from the floor to open the contest, but the Mids managed to eke out a 6-4 edge as the first quarter came to a close.
- Nelson banked in a floater from the lane before Vanessa Edgehill came up with a steal and coast-to-coast finish, trimming the deficit to 9-8.
- The Terriers turned the ball over on five straight possessions, giving way for Navy to stroke a 10-0 run to pull ahead, 19-8, with 2:08 remaining in the half.
- Chiara Tibbitt converted on an and-1 to cap a 6-2 run to close the quarter, though the Mids held the scoreboard in their favor, 21-14.
- Durant and Nelson willed BU back into the game, combining for 16 straight points to make it a one-point game, 31-30, with 1:36 left in the frame.
- Tenisha Pressley sealed an 11-0 Terrier run to the end the third, polishing off a runner in the lane to swing the scoreboard, 32-31.
- Sydney Johnson powered through the lane to put the Terriers up by five, 38-33, with 3:08 to play.
- Navy responded with an 8-0 run to make it a 41-38 game with 37 seconds left.
- Nelson delivered a clutch 3-pointer from the corner to tie it up once again, 41-41, with 17 seconds remaining.
- However, Navy hit its 10th triple of the game with four seconds to go, while BU could not tie it up for the final time as time ran out.
- Durant's 14 rebounds were the most by a freshman since Jesyka Burks-Wiley '09 grabbed 20 against Stony Brook on March 11, 2006.
- BU held Navy scoreless for 10:58 between the third and fourth quarters.
- 10 of Navy's 18 field goal for the game came from 3-point range.
- BU will host Holy Cross for Alumni Day on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 4 p.m.
