BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Taking on the Patriot League preseason favorite and current front runner, the Boston University women's basketball team struggled to get into rhythm as it fell to Lehigh, 51-34, Wednesday night at Stabler Arena.
Lehigh used the 3-point shot to remain atop the Patriot League standings, as 12 of its 19 field goals came from distance. Comparatively, the Terriers missed all 12 of their 3-point attempts and turned the ball over a season-high 21 times.
How It Happened
- Nia Irving and Annabelle Larnard worked the paint to open the game as both teams struggled to find their footing through the opening five minutes.
- Sydney Johnson went coast-to-coast before Maggie Pina and Vanessa Edgehill worked a give-and-go in transition to close the quarter, evening the score at 10-all.
- The Terriers started to click offensively in the following stanza, as Irving and Katie Nelson attacked the paint for the first eight points, putting the score at 18-16 in favor of BU.
- Lehigh used the 3-point shot to respond, pushing out a 7-0 run to force a Terrier timeout with 4:08 left before the break.
- Maren Durant hustled for four straight points to close the half, trimming the deficit to 26-22.
- The Mountain Hawks continued to click from beyond-the-arc, pushing out a 32-22 lead to force another timeout with 6:26 left in the frame.
- Johnson broke up a 9-0 run with a drive through the lane, but Lehigh responded with another pair of 3-pointers en route to outscoring BU 19-5 in the third.
- BU started the fourth with a 5-3 streak, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as it fell to 0-2 in conference road games.
