BOSTON – Boston University Track & Field will host the BU Last Chance Meet at the Track and Tennis Center on Thursday and Friday. This weekend marks the final days for student-athletes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
In addition to student-athletes, the meet will feature an incredible field of world class post-graduate athletes. On Thursday evening, special invitational sections of the men's and women's 3000m will be held along with a women's 5000m and a men's 1500m with several national records and Olympic qualifying times on the line.
On Thursday at 5pm, Germany's Konstanze Klosterhalfen will compete in the women's 5000m invitational with the German national indoor record of 14:55.99 and European indoor record 14:47.35 both a possibility. Nichole Hutchinson of Canada will also compete in the 5K looking to break the Canadian record of 14:57.45. In addition, several members of the Bowerman Track Club have a shot at the women's United States' 3K record of 8:33.25.
On Friday evening at 4:50pm, Paul Chelimo will shoot for the USA 5K record of 13:01.26 as he takes on Edward Cheserek in a highly anticipated men's 5K.
Student-athletes competing at the TTC on Friday will hope to finish with one of the top 16 results in the country in a given event to qualify for nationals.
The BU Track & Field Team will not be competing at the Last Chance Meet and will instead travel to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. to compete in the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
