Terriers Post Four Top 10 Marks at Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener

BOSTON — The Boston University track & field programs opened their seasons at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday and posted four top 10 marks in the process.

Top 10 Terriers
- The 4x400m relay crew of freshman Molly Bennett, senior Ijeoma Ezechukwu, senior Jada Smith and sophomore Kendall Barnhart finished in 3:48.21, moving that group into eighth all-time at BU.
- The next top 10 mark came from senior Freddy Collins, who posted a 7:58.95 time in the 3000m to move into 8th all-time.
- During the elite window, sophomore Thomas Cowan dropped a 1:47.88 mark in the 800m run to slide into second all-time at BU.
- Also in the elite window, junior Karsen Vesty ran his first-ever sub-4 minute mile, crossing the line in 3:59.36 and taking fifth all-time at BU.
- Freshman Zachary Cox took third in the 300m during his collegiate debut, finishing in 34.23.
- Cox, along with fellow freshmen Nicholas Masters, Thaden Leomensah and Nicholas Cappucio, won the men's 4x400m as Cappucio used a final push to pull ahead of the pack on the last lap.
- Making her collegiate debut, freshman Samantha Lascelles finished third in the 600m with a 1:32.18 mark.
- Senior Ijeoma Ezechukwu finished fifth in the 300m with a 38.86 mark.
- Josh Hoey of Adidas set a new world best in the indoor 600m, finishing in 1:12.84 and besting the previous record of 1:13.77, set by Donovan Brazier in 2019. His mark was .03 seconds off the all-conditions world record of 1:12.81.
- Freshman Jane Hedengren of BYU broke the collegiate record in the 5000m, running a 14:44.79 to beat the previous record of 14:52.57, set by Alabama's Doris Lemngole just a year ago at the Season Opener.
