Women's Basketball Clinches No. 2 Seed in PL Tournament With 62-56 Win vs. Army

BOSTON – Fueled by its backcourt, the Boston University women's basketball clinched the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament with a 62-56 win over Army Wednesday night at Case Gym.
With the win, the Terriers secured their best regular season finish since joining the Patriot League with a 12-6 conference showing.
Maggie Pina and Katie Nelson led the scoring charge, as Pina led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Nelson followed with 16 on a 7-for-13 shooting clip and matched a career high with eight assists. Sydney Johnson also reached double figures with a 12-point night. Riley Childs controlled the glass, hauling down 14 rebounds.

How It Happened
- Pina was on fire to start, pouring in 10 of BU's first 14 points as it pushed out an eight-point advantage.
- Tenisha Pressley and Johnson sliced through the lane for back-to-back layups before Pina capped the opening quarter with her second 3-pointer to further the scoreboard to 21-13.
- Johnson caught the hot hand, netting five straight points as the outset of the second quarter to maintain an eight-point margin, 26-18.
- Nelson tacked on six of the final eight points for BU to close the quarter, though Army end the half on a 13-6 run to reduce the deficit to 34-33.
- The Black Knights took advantage of turnovers to reel off a 9-3 streak, taking a 42-40 lead at the halfway point in the third.
- Nia Irving and Nelson combined for a 5-0 run over the final minutes of the frame, putting the Terriers back on top, 47-44.
- BU and Army exchanged punches to start the fourth until Nelson kicked off a 6-2 run in the paint, furthering the advantage to 59-54 midway through the final stanza.
- The Terriers held Army without a field goal over the final 6:17 of play as they secured their sixth straight win at home.
- BU recorded its best first half shooting percentage (66.7%) and cumulative shooting percentage (55.6) of the season.
- Nelson surpassed 100 assists on the season and tallied her second career eight-assist game against Army.
- The Terriers shot 67.8 percent from within the 3-point arc.
- BU's guards combined for 51 points.
- BU will host a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal game on Monday, March 9 at 6 p.m.
- The Terriers will face Saturday's winner of the No. 7 American vs. No. 10 Navy game.
