Lewis, Pelose Receive John B. Simpson Award
April 30, 2020 | General, Men's Cross Country, Women's Lacrosse, Student-Athlete Academic Support Service
BOSTON - Seniors Lexi Lewis (women's lacrosse) and Greg Pelose (men's cross country) were the recipients of the John B. Simpson Award during the online ceremony for the 2019-20 Rhettys on Monday.
Named in honor of a 1950 graduate of Boston University who served as Director of Athletics from 1975 to 1984, these awards are presented to one male and one female athlete on the basis of their enthusiastic senior leadership. These student-athletes may or may not be the best players on their teams, but they are definitely competitors who have led by their enthusiasm and energy.
Lewis, a three-year starter at the midfield, was in the midst of her best season yet as she led the Terriers in draw controls (30), ground balls (18) and caused turnovers (10). The senior posted a breakout season as a junior, setting new career highs in goals (25), assists (10), points (35), ground balls (35) and caused turnovers (8) and was named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team. Lewis will receive her degree in business administration and management with concentrations in finance and accounting along with a minor in mathematical statistics this month.
Pelose was an outstanding captain of the men's cross country team in 2019, completing a terrific collegiate career. His influence and guidance was especially important this year as the Terriers featured 14 freshmen on their squad. Thanks to his mentorship, those young men transitioned seamlessly into student-athletes at BU. Pelose helped lead BU to a third-place finish at the Patriot League Championship, one of three top-five finishes for the Terriers in 2019. A three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll who boasted a 4.0 GPA this past fall, Pelose will graduate in May from the College of Arts and Sciences with a degree in marine science.
