Shawgo Returns to BU to Head Up Athletic Development
October 28, 2021 | General, Terrier Athletics Fund
BOSTON - Kyle Shawgo, a member of Boston University's athletic development department from 2015-20, has returned to campus as the director of athletic development, as announced by director of athletics Drew Marrochello.
Shawgo spent the past year-and-a-half at Brown University, where he was a senior leadership gifts officer within the regional advancement office. He came to BU in 2015 as the assistant director of athletic development and was promoted to associate director in 2017.
"I could not be happier to welcome back Kyle to our team," said Marrochello. "His past work here at BU speaks for itself and we look forward to having him take over the development unit and continue building relationships between our programs and their alumni and supporters. He is well-respected throughout BU Athletics and the Development & Alumni Relations office (DAR) and is a natural choice to continue the momentum we've built in this area the past decade."
Shawgo will head the Terriers' fundraising team and oversee the implementation and management of the annual giving program for BU Athletics while coordinating efforts to identify, cultivate and solicit leadership donors. The role also acts as a resource and liaison with DAR.
"I am thrilled to be back at Boston University and extremely grateful for the opportunity to once again work with Drew, the coaches and the staff," said Shawgo. "It is an honor to step into this role and I look forward to engaging with the alumni, parents and friends that make up this incredible community as we look to continue to shape a world-class experience for our student-athletes."
Under Shawgo's watch in his first stop at BU, the Terrier Athletics Annual Fund saw tremendous growth, achieving back-to-back-to-back record-breaking years and crossing the $2 million mark for the first time ever in FY17. The department has enjoyed incredible success on BU Giving Day, having raised a new record in each of the previous four years and a historic $1,357,366 in 2019.
While at Brown, Shawgo engaged alumni, parents and friends on the West Coast in support of the $3 billion BrownTogether Campaign.
Shawgo served as the Director of the Beach Athletic Club at Long Beach State University from 2013-15. His responsibilities included managing the Athletics Annual Fund which raised $1,370,522 in FY15 from 1,468 donors, both significant increases over the previous year and The Director's Circle Giving Society which had 197 members contributing at least $1,500. He also maintained an active donor portfolio of leadership giving prospects and served as the fundraising liaison for track & field, cross country and women's soccer.
He previously served as an annual fund assistant at the University of Minnesota Department of Athletics from 2011-13 where he received his master's of education in sport management in 2012. His duties included generating revenue through gift renewals and season ticket purchases as well as planning the acknowledgement and stewardship program tracking donor gifts and benefits.
Shawgo is a 2011 graduate of Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis., where he was a four-year member of the men's soccer team and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
