Shanahan Named Hockey East Rookie of the Week

AMESBURY, Mass. - Freshman Callie Shanahan of the Boston University women's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Shanahan was terrific in her first two collegiate starts, helping lead the Terriers to a weekend sweep of New Hampshire. On Friday, she made 26 saves, including 16 in the final two periods, to backstop BU to a 4-2 comeback win in the season opener at Whittemore Center. Then, in her home debut, Shanahan stopped all 16 shots she faced in a 5-0 triumph. A native of Commerce, Michigan, Shanahan did not allow a goal in her final 113:52 of work this past weekend and became the first Terrier rookie since Kerrin Sperry in the 2010-11 season to record a shutout.
