Women's Ice Hockey Falls at Holy Cross, 2-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Boston University women's ice hockey team fell at Holy Cross, 2-0, on Thursday evening at the Hart Center Rink in the opener of a home-and-home series.
After a scoreless first period, the Crusaders scored once in each of the final two periods to earn their first-ever win over the Terriers.
BU moves to 5-4-3 overall and 4-3-3 in Hockey East play. Holy Cross improves to 2-10-0 with a 1-7-0 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers held a 9-4 edge in shots in the opening period and had the first power-play chance of the game but headed into the first intermission scoreless.
- BU's power play got back on the ice early in the second period and Holy Cross' penalty kill was up to the task once again.
- The Crusaders opened the scoring at 8:59 of the second as Darci Johal converted from the foot of the left circle off assists by Lilly Feeney and Emily Fortunato.
- Soon after taking the 1-0 lead, Holy Cross got its first power-play chance of the game but the Terriers were able to keep it a one-goal contest.
- The Terriers more than doubled up the Crusaders in shots in the final period but the home team was able to to double its lead.
- An attempt from the center point by Emille Fortunato was tipped in by Sommer Ross at the 5:25 mark of the third, giving the Crusaders a 2-0 lead.
- The teams traded penalties 20 seconds apart later in the third but it did not produce any goals and they returned to 5-on-5 play with three minutes left in regulation.
- BU pulled goalie Kate Stuart in favor of an extra attacker late in the contest but the Crusaders kept the visitors off the board to complete the shutout.
- BU outshot Holy Cross, 29-20, as Stuart turned in an 18-save effort.
- The Crusaders got a 29-save performance from Madison Beck to earn the shutout.
- The Terriers went 0-for-3 on the power play and kept the Crusaders scoreless on their three chances with the player advantage.
- Sophomore Andi Calderone had a team-best three blocked shots for the Terriers while senior Emma Wuthrich led all players in shots with five.
- BU and Holy Cross will meet again on Friday (Nov. 12) at Walter Brown Arena in the back end of the home-and-home.
- Game time is set for 7 p.m.
