Terriers Fall to Holy Cross, 86-75

BOSTON - Despite season-high 22 points from senior Javante McCoy, the Boston University men's basketball team dropped its home regular season finale, 86-75, to Holy Cross on Wednesday night at Case Gym.
Holy Cross (5-11, 5-11 PL) used a 13-0 run early in the first half to take the lead and never look back. Austin Butler poured in 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting for the Crusaders, who evened the six-game season series with the Terriers at 3-3.
Seniors Sukhmail Mathon, McCoy and Andrew Petcash were honored as part of Senior Day prior to opening tip.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Ethan Brittain-Watts hit a 3-pointer at the four-minute mark to give the Terriers an early 8-4 edge.
- The Terriers went cold from the floor while the Crusaders reeled off a 13-0 run to take control, 17-8, with 12 minutes remaining in the first.
- BU started to come alive, as another triple from Brittain-Watts and an and-1 conversion from junior Jonas Harper cut the deficit to 26-18 with 8:21 on the clock.
- McCoy drove through the lane to cap a 7-0 streak for the Terriers, making it a two-possession game, 31-25, with 5:40 to play in the half.
- BU worked the free throw line before McCoy completed his own and-1 play to close the half as the score held in favor of Holy Cross, 45-33.
- McCoy maintained the hot hand, delivering three of BU's first four field goal in the second half, though the Crusaders still led, 51-41, with 16:49 to play.
- Butler took over as the Crusaders opened up the game, 70-52, with 9:39 remaining.
- The Terriers regained their moment as junior Walter Whyte went for six straight points to close an 11-7 spurt, trimming the gap to 77-63 with less than five minutes to go.
- BU shot 56.7 percent (17-30) in the second half, but Holy Cross was also efficient with a 60.0 percent (15-25) shooting clip in the second half as it handed the Terriers their third straight defeat.
- The senior class combined for 33 points on 14-of-25 (56.0%) shooting.
- The Terriers opened the game shooting just 4-for-13 (30.7%) from the field as Holy Cross opened up a 26-12 lead with 9:20 remaining in the first, a lead they would never relinquish.
- BU held a 33-23 advantage in rebounds, including a 10-3 edge in offensive boards.
- Holy Cross converted on a season-high 59.3 percent (32-54) of its shots from the floor, including 55.6 percent (10-18) clip from 3-point range.
- The Black Knights will host BU in their final two games of the regular season on Saturday and Sunday. Both games are scheduled for 3 p.m. starts.
