DuBois Continues March Up the PL Record Book as BU Claims DH Sweep over Colgate

BOSTON – Extending its NCAA-leading active home win streak to 25 games, the Boston University softball team claimed a doubleheader sweep over Colgate on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers (15-1, 4-0 PL) scored four runs in the first inning of game one en route to a 6-1 victory and rallied from a three-run deficit for the 6-5 game-two win. Two-time Patriot League Pitcher of the Year and senior Ali DuBois (10-0) continued her march up the rankings in the conference's record book, as she held the Raiders (3-7, 1-2 PL) to just one hit in a combined 7.1 innings of work to grab sole possession of second place at 70 career wins before moving up to tied-for-fifth all-time at seven saves.

Junior Emily Gant (1-1) collected six strikeouts in four innings of relief to earn her first win of the season in the second contest. Freshman Alex-Rose Molinar and senior Jen Horita went a combined 4-for-6 with three runs to help lead the rally with sophomore Caitlin Coker adding a critical two-out, two-RBI single in the sixth. Besides making an impressive catch on a hard liner at right, freshman Lauren Keleher led the Terriers with three runs scored on the day.

GAME 1: BU 6, Colgate 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Colgate's Bailey Misken (1-3) held BU to just three hits but was undone by six walks and two hit-by-pitches.
  • With the bases loaded, junior Nicole Amodio was hit to plate the first run, and Horita drew a walk for the second run.
  • Misken then misplayed a grounder from freshman Kayla Roncin to let two more runs score for the 4-0 deficit.
  • The Raiders got a run back in the second with a walk and a two-base infield error but stranded a runner at second, as DuBois earned. a foul out and ground out.
  • Neither team had a hit until the fourth inning when junior Aliyah Huerta-Leipner hit a two-out RBI triple to right center to plate Keleher for the 5-1 lead.
  • The Raiders' Mia Guevarra broke up DuBois' no-hit bid in the sixth with a double to center.
  • Coker added one more run in the sixth by singling up the middle, stealing second, grabbing third on Huerta-Leipner's single and scoring on Grant's grounder.
  • DuBois sealed the win with three quick outs for her third one-hitter of the season.
GAME 2: BU 6, Colgate 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After sophomore and reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week Allison Boaz extended her scoreless streak to 23 innings with three outs in the first, the Raiders ripped back-to-back homers in the second to grab a 2-0 lead.
  • Colgate added a third solo shot with two outs in the third to push the lead to 3-0, prompting a change to Gant in the circle.
  • Molinar helped spark the rally with a lead-off double in the bottom half and eventually took third following sophomore Audrey Sellers' walk and Coker's grounder.
  • Molinar then beat the throw home on Keleher's RBI grounder, and the Terriers added two more runs on Huerta-Leipner's sac fly that got away from the catcher on the throw home to put the game at 3-3.
  • Trying to retake the lead in the fifth, Colgate was hit by a pitch and singled up the middle with one out before Gant ended the threat on a ground out and swinging strikeout.
  • The Terriers earned a hit and pair of walks in the bottom half but left the bases loaded with a strikeout and ground out.
  • Gant earned another big swinging strikeout in the top of the sixth, as the Raiders left a runner at third.
  • BU loaded the bases again with the help of singles by Horita and Molinar.
  • Sellers plated the go-ahead run on an infield grounder, and Coker delivered what proved to be the decisive at-bat with a two-out, two-RBI single against Misken, who appeared in relief trying to keep the game tied.
  • The Raiders tried to mount a rally with the help of a walk and error, as they plated a run on a ground out and two-out RBI single.
  • DuBois entered the circle needing one more out, and Roncin made the play catching a liner toward second for the victory.
