Dartmouth Holds Off Women's Tennis, 5-2

HANOVER, N.H. – The Boston University women's tennis team opened a weekend trip to Dartmouth with a hard-fought 5-2 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center.
The Big Green (2-1) edged the Terriers (0-2) in a pair of doubles matches for the first point and then captured four singles points, including three in straight sets, for the three-point victory. Both freshman Michelle Kleynerman and senior Shelly Yaloz collected singles wins to lead BU.
Dartmouth started off with a 6-2 win in the top doubles slot and then prevailed in the other two matches by a combined score of 14-11 to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
Kleynerman put BU on the scoreboard with her first singles win of the dual season with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at line 4 against former Massachusetts state champion and USTA 18s national team member Lexi Dewire, 7-5, 6-3. Yaloz moved to 2-0 in the new year with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the No. 5 slot against Elizabeth Fahrmeier, who ranked as high as No. 59 in the Class of 2021.
Dartmouth though sealed the team victory by winning the top 3 singles matches in straight sets. Sophomore Kaitlin Tan battled Nicole Conard to a pair of tiebreakers at line 2 but ultimately came up just short, 7-6(4), 7-6(5). Graduate student Emily Kim was the third Terrier to win a set before Ujvala Jupalli rallied for the final point, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 6 slot.
