Terriers Top UMass in Home Opener, 173-125

BOSTON - The Boston University men's swimming & diving team opened its home schedule on Saturday afternoon and posted a 173-125 dual victory over Massachusetts at the FitRec Competition Pool.
Freshman Tony Ponomarev won three events while senior Kyle Falkstrom, junior Justin Lee and sophomore Dolan Grisbaum won two events apiece.
Ponomarev made his home debut one to remember, sweeping the backstroke events before topping off the day with a win in the 200 IM in a time of 1:54.91. The freshman won the 100 backstroke in 51.12 seconds before posting a 1:51.93 in the 200 backstroke.
The breaststroke events both went to Falkstrom as the senior as he won the 100 in a time of 56.87 seconds and came out on top in the 200 (2:05.62).
The sprints belonged to Lee with winning times of 20.78 (50) and 46.51 (100) before he anchored a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:23.74) along with seniors Ethan Thomas and Jacob Lindner along with freshman Ben Cho.
Falkstrom, Lee and Lindner were part of a win in the 200 medley relay along with sophomore Keegan Duffy (1:33.23).
Grisbaum controlled the distance events, topping all competitors in the 1000 free with a time of 9:38.67 along with a victory in the 500 free (4:39.89).
The Terriers will return to the pool next Saturday (Nov. 5) when they host Providence at 1:30 p.m.
