Newman Win Highlights Opening Day of Terrier Invitational

BOSTON - Highlighted by a win by freshman Haley Newman in the 200 individual medley, the Boston University women's swimming & diving team hosted the opening day of the Terrier Invitational on Friday at the FitRec Competition Pool.
Newman swam a personal-best 2:02.25 in the finals to top all competitors and earn 24 points toward the team total. BU stands in third place among six teams after the opening day with 310 points.
Sophomore Ashley Scafetta placed fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:59.38 and junior Lara Mitchell swam a lifetime-best 23.69 in the 50 freestyle to take seventh. BU had two top-10 finishers in the 200 IM, as junior Ava Berzanski took ninth in a time of 2:06.53, as well as the 1-meter dive, where sophomore Sophia Souza and junior Sumi Cameron finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
All three of BU's entries in the 200 freestyle relay placed in the top 12 with the 'A' group of Newman, Mitchell, sophomore Sasha Ramey and junior Sydney Sorbello leading the way in fifth (1:34.22).
The 400 medley relay closed out the night with BU taking three of the top 13 spots and the 'A' quartet placing fourth as Mitchell, Scafetta, Newman and Ramey clocked in at 3:45.83.
Saturday's prelims will start at 10 a.m.
