BOSTON – Seeking its third 20+ win season in four years, the Boston University men's basketball team will host archrival Northeastern Monday night at Case Gym with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.

The contest is part of a season-opening basketball doubleheader at The Roof with the women's teams from both schools first meeting at 4:30 p.m.

Coming off a quarterfinal appearance at the College Basketball Invitational this past March, the Terriers enter their 114th season with 12th-year head coach Joe Jones at the helm and will continue a crosstown rivalry with the Huskies that has turned into one of the nation's most exciting. Fourteen of the last 15 meetings have featured a single-digit victor with three matchups requiring overtime and six others being decided by three points or less in regulation. They will be opening against one another for the 11th time since 2010.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • Selected second in the Patriot League preseason poll, BU returns 14 Terriers from last year's roster but did lose over 40% of points and rebounds following the graduation of 2022 Patriot League Player of the Year Sukhmail Mathon (15.1 ppg, 10.2 rpg) and three-time All-PL honoree Javante McCoy (17.4 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.9 apg).
  • Graduate student and preseason All-Patriot League honoree Walter Whyte is the top returning scorer (12.7 ppg) and rebounder (5.7 rpg). He currently ranks 19th all-time at BU in points (1,238) and is only 262 away from becoming the 10th to reach 1,500 while also needing just 60 rebounds (645 total) to crack the top 10.
  • Graduate student and two-time PL All-Defensive Team member Jonas Harper averaged 7.4 ppg last season and owns 165 3-pointers, just 13 away from grabbing the No. 10 slot in the program record book.
  • Graduate student Fletcher Tynen is the third returning starter who averaged personal-bests 5.8 ppg and 3.4 rpg last season.
  • Other key returners include senior Ethan Brittain-Watts (4.7 ppg), junior Daman Tate (3.6 ppg), junior Caelan Jones (3.0 ppg), junior Anthony Morales (3.0 ppg), junior Miles Brewster (2.0 ppg) and sophomore Malcolm Chimezie (2.0 ppg, 2.7 rpg). Senior Nevin Zink (6.2 ppg) is back after suffering a season-ending injury last November and is looking to build off his 9.1 ppg and 5.6 rpg performance from 2020-21 at USC Upstate.
  • The Terriers welcome three newcomers in freshmen forwards Otto Landrum and Nic Nobili along with guard Ben Roy
  • BU went 9-4 during the regular season for its most non-conference wins since going 10-9 in 1982-83.
  • The Terriers went 11-4 at home last year with a 4-1 mark against non-conference opponents and PL quarterfinal victory.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
  • The Huskies were selected to finish sixth in the 13-member CAA preseason poll after going 9-22 last season with a 0-12 road mark and 3-2 neutral record.
  • Northeastern welcomes six freshmen, their most since the 2009-10 season.
  • NU also now has a familiar face in 6-foot-5 transfer Joe Pridgen, who averaged 12.1 ppg and 8.2 rpg for UNC Wilmington in 2020-21 after earning 2019-20 Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors at Holy Cross on 17.4 ppg and 6.8 rpg, respectively.
  • Top returners include 6-foot-7 preseason All-CAA Second Team guard Jahmyl Telfort (12.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg) and 6-foot-7 preseason All-CAA honorable mention forward Chris Dougherty (11.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg).
