Harvard Outlasts Women's Tennis, 5-2

ALLSTON, Mass. – In a tightly-contested matchup, Harvard captured the final two singles points in three-set battles to fend off the Boston University women's tennis team, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Murr Center.
The Crimson (2-1) won two of the three doubles matches for the early 1-0 lead and then won four of six singles points, as the Terriers dropped to 1-3.
Sophomore Kaitlin Tan led BU by first teaming with senior Shelly Yaloz for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and then cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 singles slot against Sophia Ho. Sophomore Victoria Carlsten captured the other point for BU by holding off Rachel Lim, 6-0, 2-6, 6-1.
Harvard withstood the top doubles loss to Tan and Yaloz by winning the other two matches by a combined score of 12-7. Ranked as high as No. 4 nationally as a recruit, Maxi Duncan fended off junior Erica Di Battista in the top singles slot, 7-6, 6-2 with Mihaela Marculescu adding another singles point at line 3 against freshman Michelle Kleynerman, 6-2, 6-4.
Freshman Sydney Sharma rallied from a set down to force a third set but ultimately came up short, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3, to Rachel Eason. Angel You earned the fifth point for Harvard against Yaloz, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Terriers will have a quick turnaround and host Binghamton on Sunday (Feb. 6) at the BU Track & Tennis Center with a 10 a.m. start.
