
Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Strong at Boston Winter Open

BOSTON - The Boston University women's swimming & diving team closed the Boston Winter Open on Saturday at Competition Pool.
Sophomore Blythe Brenner continued her excellent weekend with two victories in freestyle events. After taking the 50 free on Friday, Brenner returned to the pool and secured victories in the 100 free (51.91) and the 200 free (1:54.11). She was also third in the 100 back with a time of 58.86.
Brenner was one of two Terriers with a pair of first-place finishes on Saturday, as freshman Fia McCarty won the 100 breast (1:05.29) and the 200 breast (2:22.39). Freshman Julia Owerko took second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.52. BU also went 1-2 in the 100 fly, with freshman Keliah Eckhart winning in 57.01 and senior Ashlyn Carroll following in 57.04. Caroll also placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.46, followed by Eckhart in third (2:06.65).
Senior Joanna McNulty had a strong showing in the 1,600 free, posting a time of 17:29.37 nearly 50 seconds faster than the third-place competitor. Junior Elizabeth Williams was fourth in the 100 free in 52.72.
BU will now turn its attention to the Patriot League Championships, which begin on Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Annapolis, Maryland.
