BOSTON – Seeing its first action of the spring, the Boston University women's lightweight rowing team earned a sweep over the Boston College openweight crew Saturday morning on the Charles River.

The Terriers won all four races against the Eagles with the third varsity eight boat starting things off at 7 a.m. in front of a national audience on on ESPN+.

Avenging last year's defeat to BC, the varsity eight boat coxed by senior Nora Chan and stroked by classmate Karsen Healy raced the 2,000-meter course to a time of 7:14.9 for an open water win over the Eagles (7:19.8). 

The second varsity eight boat coxed by sophomore Rayna Kuthiala and stroked by senior Caroline Birdsall posted a winning time of 7:29.3 to beat BC by one second.

Birdsall also stroked the third varsity eight boat coxed by junior Nicolle Alvarez to a 18.4 second win over the Eagles in the first race of the day. Both BC and Radcliffe had fourth varsity eight boats finish further behind at 7:54.4 and 7:55.9, respectively.

In the final race of the morning, BU's varsity four boat coxed by Heather Shinn and stroked by sophomore Annelise Escudero held off a late BC charge for the 2.3 second win, posting a time of 8:35.3.

The Terriers will remain home and next race Bates on Saturday, April 2.
