Women's Rowing Opens Lake Wheeler Invite with Six Top-Three Finishes

LAKE WHEELER, N.C. – The Boston University women's rowing team finished its first day of racing at the Lake Wheeler Invitational in North Carolina with six top-three finishes. The two-day regatta consists of three rounds of racing in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four events.
BU took third place in all three events in the first round, which consisted of crews from No. 11 Duke, No. 15 Syracuse, Kansas and Georgetown. The Terriers matched up against Louisville, North Carolina, Georgetown and Kansas in the second round, taking a win in the second varsity eight and second place finishes in both the varsity eight and varsity four.
Coxswain Trisha Jaggi and stroke seat Tiare Hicks helped the second varsity eight to a winning time of 6:53.79 in their second race of the day. They opened the day with a third-place finish and time of 6:56.93 behind first place Syracuse and second place Duke, but ahead of Kansas and Georgetown.
The varsity eight coxed by Mia Ball and stroked by Kat Robbins concluded the first round with a team-best time of 6:40.63. Syracuse finished first ahead of second-place Duke. Georgetown and Kansas rounded out the five. In the second round, the Terriers finished second (6:43.08) behind Louisville and ahead of Georgetown, Kansas and North Carolina.
The varsity four coxed by Audrey Lucerne and stroked by Hannah Look finished the course second with a time of 7:46:72 in the second round behind Louisville and ahead of Kansas, Georgetown and North Carolina. In the first round, they finished third (7:48.03) behind Duke and Syracuse and ahead of Kansas and Georgetown.
On Saturday, the Terriers will race against No. 9 Penn, No. 11 Duke, defending Patriot League champion Navy and Boston College. The varsity four will compete first at 10:36 a.m., followed by the second varsity eight at 11:12 a.m. and the varsity eight at 12 p.m.
