Women’s Lacrosse Caps 2022 With Senior Day, Hosts American

BOSTON – Wrapping up the 2022 season, the Boston University women's lacrosse program will honor the Class of 2022 for Senior Day, welcoming American to Boston on Friday (Apr. 29). Opening draw is tabbed for 4 p.m.
 
BU will honor seniors Sarah Mazza, Kylie Cadogan, Caroline Pinho, Kennady Smith, captains Emma Pfaff and Riley Kokoruda, and team manager Max Livingston. The ceremony will begin on the field at approximately 2:43 p.m.
 
Friday's game is part of a BU Lacrosse doubleheader, as the men's team caps its regular season with a matchup against Army West Point at 8 p.m. Food trucks will offer free food for fans attending the games, along with a cash bar for patrons who are at least 21 years old. In partnering with El Jefe's, fans will also receive a voucher for a free El Jefe's taco if the Terriers score 10 or more goals.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers fell to Harvard in their final road game of the year, 18-8, on Tuesday (Apr. 26).
  • Junior Claire Gola totaled two goals, two assists, and two caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Tobey Tick added a team-high three goals.
  • As the team manager, Livingston has played an instrumental role in curating practice and game film throughout the year.
  • Mazza is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and 2021 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selection.
  • Cadogan, who made her first-career starts in BU's previous two games, has been named to the PL Academic Honor Roll twice in her career.
  • Pinho has set career-highs in 2022 with seven goals, five assists, and seven ground balls.
  • Smith has totaled 203 saves in goal for the Terriers. Earning PL Goalkeeper of the honors in March of 2019, she stopped a career-best 18 shots at Holy Cross on Mar. 30.
  • Starting 13 of her 16 appearances, Pfaff has made personal-bests this year with 11 caused turnovers and six ground balls.
  • Kokoruda has started 42 of her 44 career appearances, notching 40 ground balls, 31 caused turnovers, and 23 draw controls.
  • Junior Jennifer Barry, who continues to lead the PL and ranks fourth in the nation with 9.25 draw controls per game, needs five to tie Jill Horka for the program record at 236 career draw controls.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • American enters the matchup with an 8-8 record, going 3-5 in Patriot League play.
  • The Eagles are contending for the sixth and final seed for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament, needing a win along with any scenario that does not involve a three-team tie at the fourth and fifth seeds with Colgate and Bucknell to reach the postseason. American can also get in if Bucknell loses at Holy Cross.
  • Emma Vinall and Stefanie Walsh each have 54 points to lead the team, with Vinall racking up 44 goals and 105 draw controls.
  • As a team, American is tops in the PL and 21st in the country with 9.38 caused turnovers per game.
  • In the preseason poll, the Eagles were picked to finish ninth after going 1-7 a season ago.
  • Head Coach Lindsay (Lewis) Teeters is a BU Class of 2006 alumna, having played with Terrier Head Coach Lauren Morton from 2005-06. The pair helped BU reach the NCAA Tournament twice, including the quarterfinals in 2005, and totaled 33 wins in those two campaigns.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday marks the seventh all-time meeting between BU and American in a series that began when the Terriers entered the PL in 2014.
  • BU has won the first six games in the series, with an average margin of victory of 9.2 goals.
  • The two programs last faced off on Apr. 6, 2019, a 23-10 BU win at Nickerson Field.
  • In that game, Emily Vervlied scored five goals, while Kailey Conry notched 10 points off four goals and six assists. Kennady Smith earned the win in goal.
