Convery Breaks School Steeplechase Record at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Meghan Convery broke the Boston University women's record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday evening at the Penn Relays, turning in a time of 10:22.52 at Franklin Field.
Running in the first heat, Convery finished eighth in a stacked field and knocked nearly two seconds off the previous record of 10:24.38 set by Jess Cickay in 2006.
Graduate student Madeline Bachmann also turned in an impressive effort in the event, winning the second heat in a time of 10:27.43, good for third all-time at BU.
Both Convery and Bachmann had never competed in the steeplechase until earlier this month.
