No. 11 Men's Rowing Defeats No. 18 Oregon State, Falls to No. 3 Cal at Pac-12 Challenge
April 9, 2022 | Men's Rowing
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The No. 11 Boston University men's rowing team split four races on Saturday during the first day of the Pac-12 Challenge at Redwood Shores.
The Terriers wrapped up the day with victories in the varsity eight and second varsity eight races against No. 18 Oregon State after losing both morning races to No. 3 California. Due to discrepancies in the officials' start and finish times, the event's organizers were only able to provide accurate finish margins for the afternoon racing.
The varsity eight, which was stroked by senior Harrison Steck and coxed by sophomore Matt Murphy, finished the 2,000-meter course four seconds ahead of the Beavers. Senior coxswain William Mulhall and freshman stroke seat Bowen de Gouw helped the second varsity eight to an open water win ahead of Oregon State by 17.1 seconds.
Earlier in the day, the varsity eight completed the course with a time of 5:54.2 with Cal finishing first at 5:35.75. The second varsity eight posted a time of 5:55.54, while the Golden Bears completed the course in 5:45.21.
BU concludes the Pac-12 Challenge tomorrow against No. 2 and defending national champion Washington. The varsity eight races at 12:30 p.m. ET, followed by the second varsity eight at 1:10 p.m. ET.
