Terrier Twelve - #11: Eligul, Mitchell Break Women's Swimming Records

Returning for a 14th year, GoTerriers.com will once again count down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year's Terrier Twelve.
Coming in at No. 11 on this year's countdown is the women's swimming & diving team as senior Sezin Eligul and sophomore Lara Mitchell both broke school records this past season.
Eligul began the year tied for the school record in the 100-yard freestyle with Sybil Smith and went on to top that time on three occasions. She set the record outright at 50.20 seconds at the Terrier Invitational and then went under 50 seconds in both the prelim and the final at the Patriot League Championships, setting a new standard of 49.90 seconds.
In the 200-yard backstroke final at the conference meet, Mitchell turned in a time of 1:58.81, breaking the school mark of set by Katie Radin in 2013. Mitchell and fellow sophomore Sumi Cameron were each named to the All-PL second team.
Eligul earned first-team all-PL honors for the second time and finished her BU career with six school records – three as an individual and three as part of relays. One of the relay records was topped at the this year's PL meet when Eligul, freshman Stephanie Liu, sophomore Madison Kim and sophomore Sydney Sorbello broke the 200-yard medley relay mark.
