SARASOTA, Fla. – Rising sophomore Ava Gamble and incoming freshman Caroline Burchette of the Boston University women's lightweight rowing team will represent the United States at the World Rowing U23 Championships on July 25-30 in Varese, Italy, USRowing announced this week.
Gamble (Yardley, Pa.) and Burchette (Wynnewood, Pa.) will race in the lightweight quadruple sculls competition along with teammates Claire Friedlander (Narberth, Pa.) and Kathleen Love (Arlington, Va.). Rising sophomore Savanna Jacovini (Wayne, Pa.) helped the crew qualify at the U.S. Trials back in June and was replaced by Burchette for international competition.
"I'm excited for Ava and Caroline to represent the U.S. at the Youth 23 Worlds," said head coach Malcolm Doldron. "BU lightweight rowing has had a great tradition of sending athletes to race at the highest levels of our sport, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what they can accomplish in Italy."
Both Gamble and Jacovini helped the BU varsity eight boat this past spring capture the Beanpot against Harvard and MIT. They later placed fourth in their respective Grand Final at the IRA National Championship Regatta. Burchette will join the Terriers having previously won the lightweight double sculls at the 2021 Scholastic National Championships and finishing third in the senior quadruple sculls at the 2022 Stotesbury Cup.
