Cross Country Teams Release 2022 Schedule
July 26, 2022 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
BOSTON - The Boston University men's and women's cross country teams announced their 2022 meet schedule on Tuesday. Both teams are set to compete in four regular season meets before entering the postseason.
"Our program motto continues to be #BetheStandardBU and with that goes continuing to raise the standard," said director of track & field and cross country Gabe Sanders. "This program has embraced that mission and vision head on over the past academic year. Coming off one of the most dynamic distance indoor and outdoor seasons in recent memory, highlighted by the women's squads ending the season as the No. 1-ranked 5k and 10k squads in the Northeast, we have raised the standard on what it means to be a BU Terrier.
"While graduating two of the most dynamic runners in BU history in Andrea Claeson and Corinne Batsu, we return nearly our entire roster that was just five points shy of a Patriot League title as well as a men's squad that returns our entire top seven. Additionally, we also added one of the best and deepest women's and men's distance classes in years. This mixture of veteran leadership and aspiring, talented youth will be an explosive combination for this season and years to come."
The Terriers begin their season locally with the Suffolk Short Course Classic on Sept. 2 at Franklin Park. The teams then return to Franklin Park on Sept. 23 for the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College. Following the pair of meets in Boston, the Terriers will travel to Lehigh for the Paul Short Invite on Sept. 30.
Both the men and women will end their regular season slate on Oct. 15. The squads' top runners will compete at the Virginia XC Invite while the remainder of the team will run at the Suffolk Invite.
"As we look to build off a historic spring track season and establish ourselves as one of the premier cross country programs in the Northeast, both squads will have high expectations as we move through the 2022 season," said associate head cross country coach Jordan Carpenter. "Our regular season schedule was selected with intent, as we want to put our young talented squads to the test against some of the best cross country programs from across the NCAA. Both squads will enter the postseason looking to battle for Patriot League Championships and improve on strong regional finishes from a year ago."
BU is set to enter the postseason on Oct. 30 with the Patriot League Championship hosted by Bucknell. In the 2021 conference championships, the women finished second and the men finished third.
The Terriers will head to the NCAA Northeast Regional on Nov. 11 in Van Cortland Park, N.Y. Any runners that qualify at regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship hosted by Oklahoma State on Nov. 19.
