Brown Edges BU For Michalson Cup, Terriers Earn 4V8 Win

March 25, 2023

BOSTON – The Boston University men's rowing team ignited the spring portion of its 2022-23 schedule with a dual race against Brown, picking up a win in the Fourth Varsity 8 race on Saturday (March 25) on the Charles River.

BU's 4V8, coxed by Hannah Noguchi and stroked by Dylan Fagiani, fended off its Brown counterpart in the final 500 meters, clocking in at 5:59.9. The Bears' 4V8 finished just 1.2 seconds behind at 6:01.1.

Earlier in the morning, Brown captured the 2V8 race after adding multiple seats just before the Harvard Bridge. The Terrier crew, coxed by Emily Slawin and stroked by Gabriel Stekl, finished with a time of 5:59.3.

In the battle for the Michalson Cup, the Bears retained the title in a close contest. BU, coxed by Peter Adams and stroked by Paul Seiters, closed what was a full-length gap to nearly five seats in the final 500m. However, its time of 5:48.3 was just under two seconds shy of Brown's 5:46.6.

The 3V8, coxed by Philip Melki and stroked by Stefan Scornavacca, clocked in at 6:02.2, behind the Bears' 5:53.5 after Brown opened up a length of open water in the final 1,000m.

BU turns its attention to the Arlett Cup on Saturday (April 1), squaring off against Northeastern on the Charles River.
