Lightweight Rowing Notches Three Wins Over Boston College

BOSTON – The Boston University lightweight rowing program opened the spring portion of its 2022-23 season with a dual race against Boston College, picking up three wins on Saturday (March 25) along the Charles River.
The Second Varsity Eight, coxed by Mayela Gaol and stroked by Savanna Jacovini, started strong in the first 500 meters and never looked back, finishing with open water in a time of 6:59.8.
The Eagles nabbed a victory in the V8 race. The Terrier crew, coxed by Rayna Kuthiala and stroked by Delaney Bernier, gained an early lead in the first 500m, but Boston College's strong push before the midway point allowed it to take over in the second half of the piece. BU clocked in at 6:47.0.
The Varsity 4, coxed by Heather Shinn and stroked by Jacovini, sported at least a three-seat lead by the Harvard Bridge, withstanding a final Eagles push near the finish line to win with a time of 7:57.7.
In the 3V/Novice 8 race, BU's crew, coxed by Mayberry Mark and stroked by Cady Messimer, built nearly a full length advantage in the first 500m, maintaining that edge through the entire course to place first in 7:22.1.
BU remains at home next Sunday (April 2), hosting Bates on the Charles River.
