Chen Claims Medalist Honors at PL Championship as Terriers Finish Runners-Up

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Sophomore Christy Chen won the individual title at the 2023 Patriot League Women's Golf Championship on Sunday at Independence Golf Club as Boston University finished runner-up to tournament host Richmond.
Chen shot a 4-under 212 (74-69-69) to shatter the previous PL Championship record of 219, set by BU's Adela Cejnarova in 2016. With the win, Chen has qualified for the NCAA Regionals and will learn her destination on Wednesday during the NCAA selection show on Golf Channel at 1 p.m.
Chen won the title by five strokes and was joined on the All-Patriot League First Team by senior Alice Fan, who finished tied for fifth at plus-3 (76-69-74—219).
No team had ever broken 900 at the PL Women's Championship and four teams achieved that feat this year. Richmond shot 842 (+10) and the Terriers finished 16 strokes back at 890 (+26) to edge Lehigh and Navy at 895 (+31) and 896 (+32), respectively. Bucknell finished fifth at 907 (+43) and Holy Cross closed out the six-team field at 947 (+83).
Junior Flair Kuan, last year's Patriot League champion, finished with her best round of the tournament – a 1-over 73 – to finish tied for 14th at plus-13 (80-76-73—229).
Freshman Annika Manjunath and sophomore Victoria Takai also saved their best for the third round as Manjunath finished tied for 23rd at plus-20 (79-80-77--236) and Takai was 29th at plus-22 (78-84-76--238).
Senior Kristen Min Ju Kim finished her career with a tournament score of 239 (76-80-83), placing her tied for 30th.
Chen took the overall lead late in the second round and never relinquished it, posting two birdies in her first three holes in the final round before shooting 2-under over her final 13 holes to cruise to the victory.
