BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After playing key roles in the Boston University softball team's perfect 6-0 performance, junior outfielder Lauren Nett and freshman pitcher Kasey Ricard have earned Patriot League weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Nett batted a stellar 9-for-14 (.643) and threw two runners out from right field to claim her first career Player of the Week award, while Ricard went 2-0 in the circle with two saves and a 1.47 ERA to earn Pitcher of the Week honors. With the announcement, BU has now received 17 total awards this spring with Nett becoming the fourth player and seventh Terrier overall to be recognized. Ricard set a freshman program record with her eighth overall award (5x Pitcher, 3x Rookie).
A native of San Diego, California, Nett went 2-for-2 in a 9-1 (5) win over Maine with five RBIs and one run scored. She went 5-for-9 in the three-game sweep over Colgate alongside a double and two runs scored. She threw out a UMass batter trying to extend a double into a triple and also helped senior catcher Audrey Sellers tag out a Raider trying to reach home in a 6-1 game three victory.
Ricard continued her stellar performance in the circle with 25 strikeouts in 19 combined innings of work. The Littleton, Massachusetts, native earned a save in both wins over Maine and then tossed a two-hit, complete game effort against the Minutewomen with the help of 11 strikeouts. In the Colgate series, she posted four strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief in a 2-1 walk-off win and then totaled seven strikeouts over seven innings in a 6-5 (8) walk-off victory.
Receiving the 26th most votes in the latest NFCA top 25 poll with the nation's longest active road win streak at 15 contests, the Terriers will next visit B-line rival Boston College later Tuesday at 5 p.m.
