No. 2 Lightweight Rowing Captures Two Events At Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – Two victories highlighted the Boston University lightweight rowing program's performance at the 2023 Eastern Sprints on Sunday (April 30) at Lake Quinsigamond.
BU took first place in the "B" entries in the Lightweight Double and Lightweight 4, and all five entries finished in the top-three on the afternoon, which featured scattered rain showers and shifting wind gusts throughout the racing.
The event began with the Lightweight 2x "B" event, where Catherine Clark and Kylie Lough built a large lead in the opening 500 meters and finished in 7:45.310. Second-place Wisconsin didn't cross the line until the 8:55.470 mark.
Meanwhile, the "A" tandem of Alanna Hoffman and Caroline Burchette posted a third-place result in a time of 7:46.170. Princeton and Harvard-Radcliffe went first and second, respectively.
The Terriers' Lightweight 4 "B" entry, coxed by Mayela Gaol and stroked by Kieran Purandare, fended off the Tigers' and Badgers' boats to win with a time of 7:37.850.
BU's final two races on Sunday featured comebacks to secure silver medals. TheLightweight 4 "A" crew, coxed by Rayna Kuthiala and stroked by Nina Palmer, overcame Georgetown after the midway point to finish in 7:25.610. Princeton was the winner at 7:22.040.
The highly-anticipated Lightweight 8 race featured five of the top-six programs in the country. No 2. BU, coxed by Heather Shinn and stroked by Delaney Bernier, boosted its stroke rate in the final 500 meters to overtake No. 3 Georgetown for a second-place effort in 6:33.580. Top-ranked Princeton was first in 6:29.290.
The one top-six program that didn't attend the Eastern Sprints, No. 4 Stanford, comes to the Charles River on Saturday (May 6) as the Terriers host a Senior Day dual race, with the first event beginning at 8 a.m.
