BOSTON – For the sixth time in a row, the Boston University lightweight rowing team was victorious in the Beanpot, capturing the Varsity 8 race over Harvard-Radcliffe and MIT on Saturday (April 8) on the Charles River.
The Terriers have won every Beanpot hosted since 2016. BU's V8+, coxed by
Heather Shinn and stroked by
Delaney Bernier, burst off the line for an early lead and never looked back, completing the course in a time of 7:06.8, nearly 12 seconds ahead of Radcliffe in second.
"It was an important day for the program," said Head Coach
Malcolm Doldron. "(The Beanpot) brings a unique rivalry, and we've been really fortunate to be on the winning side of it. Harvard-Radcliffe and MIT have high-level performers and train really hard. It's a big deal to bring the Beanpot home for a sixth-straight year."
BU also notched first place in the Fours event. The Varsity 4+, coxed by
Rayna Kuthiala and stroked by
Nina Palmer, led all crews with a time of 8:07.5. The 2V4+, coxed by
Mayela Gaol and stroked by
Catherine Clark, finished ahead of the Engineers in 8:43.0.
Harvard-Radcliffe picked up the win in the Doubles race. The duo of
Kylie Lough and
Alanna Hoffman was the fastest Terrier boat in 8:36.9, while
Caroline Burchette and
Savanna Jacovini recorded a time of 8:42.8.
The Terriers race away from Boston next weekend for the first time in the spring, heading to the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River from April 15-16.
"We'll see both of these programs at various points in the season, and as early as next week. This is only the first part of the series, and we hope to continue to train and perform at a high level."
