Women's Ice Hockey to Start Second Half on Monday at Maine

BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team will kick off the second half of its season on Monday (Jan. 8) when it visits Maine for a 5 p.m. contest at Alfond Arena.

The Terriers are back in action after a 30-day break from the schedule. BU closed out the first half with a pair of home wins on Dec. 8-9 and enters 2024 on a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1).

BU and Maine are tied for sixth place in the Hockey East standings with 18 points apiece.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • After a long hiatus, the Terriers will look to carry momentum from their last games on Dec. 8-9 when they posted home wins over Holy Cross (2-1) and Providence (5-1).
  • Senior Lacey Martin leads the Terriers with 16 points this season on seven goals and nine assists.
  • Senior Catherine Foulem (7g, 5a) and sophomore Clara Yuhn (5g, 7a) have each contributed 12 points.
  • Freshman Alex Law posted five points (1g, 4a) in five December games and was named the runner-up for Hockey East Rookie of the Month.
  • Law and senior Andi Calderone are tied for the team lead in plus-minus at +5. 
  • The Terriers' penalty kill is operating at 87.9 percent, which ranks second in Hockey East and eighth in the nation.
  • Graduate student Alexa Matses (4-6-1, 2.45, .902) and freshman Mari Pietersen (4-2-1, 2.83, .860) have shared time in goal. 
     
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
  • Maine is 6-2-0 over its past eight games and is coming off a 3-2 home loss to Boston College on Saturday. 
  • The Black Bears closed out the first semester with five straight wins before returning to action with a third-place finish at the Battle at the 'Burgh on Dec. 29-30.
  • Graduate student Ida Kuoppala leads all Hockey East players in points with 27 on 15 goals and 12 assists, and she was named the league's Player of the Month for December.
  • Fellow graduate student Ann-Frederique Guay has 22 points on the strength of a team-best 16 goals while senior Rachel Enzler has added 18 points (5g, 13a).
  • Freshman netminder Julia Bachetti has played in 12 of Maine's 20 contests and has a 2.15 goals-against average and a .911 save-percentage. 
     
SERIES HISTORY VS. MAINE
  • BU is 33-21-4 (.603) all-time against Maine, including a 16-10-1 record (.611) at Alfond Arena.
  • The teams met in Orono on Oct. 28 with sophomore Clara Yuhn's late power-play goal being the difference in a 4-3 win.
  • Nine of the past 12 meetings have taken place at Walter Brown Arena.
     
UP NEXT
  • The Terriers will close a run of seven straight Hockey East games next weekend when they host New Hampshire on Friday (Jan. 12) before visiting UConn on Saturday (Jan. 13).
