BETHLEHEM, Penn. — The Patriot League named junior runner
Vera Sjöberg Runner of the Week and freshman runner
Caroline Collins Rookie of the Week after a strong showing at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Sjöberg had a career day on the 6K course, posting a 19:56.2 personal-best time to finish sub-20 minutes for the first time in her collegiate career. She finished second in the field of 371 runners in the top race of the day and improved on her time from the previous year by 34 seconds. This is the Stockholm, Sweden native's first time winning the award.
Collins, a Stow, Massachusetts native, finished 97th in the race and crossed the line at 21:24.2 in her first collegiate 6K, taking the fifth place in the scoring five for the Terriers and helping them finish eighth overall. This is her second straight Rookie of the Week win after taking the award after the UMass Dartmouth Invite on Sept. 21.
Next up, Sjöberg, Collins and the rest of the Terriers head to the Princeton Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 18.
