Terriers Cap Non-Conference Play With 77-56 Win at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Alex Giannaros dropped a team high 23 points and freshman Channing Warren scored a career best 15 points to help the Boston University women's basketball program notch a 77-56 victory over Yale on Sunday afternoon at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
BU (6-5) scored 27 points in the second quarter to finish the first half with 50 points, both season high-marks. The Terrier defense also coaxed the Bulldogs (1-12) to 2-of-23 shooting from beyond the arc.
Giannaros shot 7-for-9 from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range. Warren added six rebounds and two steals on her ledger.
Mackenzie Egger needed 21 shots to earn a game high 25 points. Ke'iara Odume added 10 points for Yale.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Inés Monteagudo Pardo scored five straight points on a reverse layup and corner three, then Giannaros canned her own triple to put BU ahead 14-3 less than five minutes into the contest.
- After Egger's layup, sophomore Bella McLaughlin's and-one jumpstarted a 9-2 Terrier run to push the lead to 23-7 with 1:40 left in the first quarter.
- BU ignited the second quarter with a 7-0 spurt on Monteagudo's driving layup, Giannaros' three and a Warren layup for a 30-9 advantage.
- BU didn't make a shot from the field from there until the 5:46 mark in the second, but junior Anete Adler had a three-point play began a 13-2 Terrier run over the next 2:45, giving the visitors a 45-13 edge.
- Warren and McLaughlin closed the stanza with layups on the right block, pushing the gap to 50-20 at halftime.
- Giannaros scored BU's first eight points in the third quarter, with her right-wing triple making it 58-31 four minutes into the frame.
- Warren would then consecutively score seven of the team's final eight points, then a Giannaros free throw replenished the 30-point lead at the end of the third quarter, 68-38.
- Yale got as close as 20 points in the fourth following a 9-0 burst, but Giannaros' right-elbow jumper just inside the arc and layups from Warren and Adler supplied the response to push BU's edge to 75-49 with 2:11 remaining in regulation.
- The Terriers set season-highs in points (77), field goal percentage (.508), made baskets (30) and assists (22).
- Overall, Yale shot 32.3 percent.
- BU posted a 48-28 advantage in paint points and 31-16 in bench points.
- The Terriers turned 18 Yale turnovers into 22 points.
- Sophomore Audrey Ericksen led BU with six assists, equaling her career high.
- Classmate Aoibhe Gormley collected five assists and four steals without surrendering a turnover.
- In her 13th career game with 20 or more points, Giannaros moved into 18th place in program history with 1,125 career points.
- She also surpassed former teammate Maggie Pina (CAS'23) on the all-time three-pointers list and now ranks fifth at 189.
- Warren entered the game with five total points and two total field goals in her first nine games. Her six rebounds and two steals were also personal bests.
- The Terriers shot better than 50 percent from the field for the first time since Feb. 28 against Lehigh.
- Finishing its non-conference slate at 6-5, BU has a winning percentage over .500 in back-to-back seasons vs. out-of-league foes for the first time since 2011-13.
- The all-time series improves to 13-6 in the Terriers' favor.
- BU ignites the 2025 calendar year with Patriot League play, hosting Lafayette on Thursday (Jan. 2). Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m.
