BOSTON – Hitting the road for the final time this regular season, the No. 22/23 nationally-ranked Boston University softball team will head to Lafayette for a key Patriot League weekend series. Both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single contest are slated for a 12 p.m. start time.
The Terriers enter the series tied atop the league standings at 12-0 alongside Lehigh, who will be visiting Army West Point on April 27-28 and then BU on May 4-5.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is 15-3 on the road this season, last pulling out a 9-5 victory at Harvard on April 16.
- The Terriers feature three of the nation's top 10 leaders in hits with senior Kayla Roncin (.409 avg.) in third at 72 hits while also owning a team-high 38 RBIs.
- Both graduate student Caitlin Coker (.424) and senior Lauren Keleher (.424) are in a tie-for-ninth at 67 hits. Keleher leads BU with 45 runs scored, 14 doubles and seven homers.
- Sophomore Brooke Deppiesse (.357 avg.) owns a team-high six triples, and graduate student Lizzy Avery (.345) leads BU with 31 walks.
- In the circle, sophomore Kasey Ricard (21-3, 1.22) ranks third nationally at 198 strikeouts in 166.0 innings of work while also owning an NCAA-high 13 solo shutouts.
- Graduate student Allison Boaz (15-1, 1.58 ERA) has four solo shutouts, while Avery (6-0, 1.35 ERA) has another of her own to help BU lead the country with 23 total shutouts.
- Overall, BU is batting .331 and holding opponents to .170 with a 45-11 advantage in stolen bases and 70-24 lead in doubles.
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS
- Lafayette is 0-8 at home this season, most recently dropping three games to Colgate by a combined score of 24-2. The Leopards battled Bucknell in three contests before coming up short (3-1, 2-1 (8) and 4-1) and later went 1-2 at Army (2-6, 3-2, 4-5).
- Besides earning one victory over the Black Knights, the Leopards also own wins over Buffalo (4-2), Tarleton State (3-0) and Fairfield (5-3).
- Megan Coyle is batting a team-high .329 with three homers, 10 doubles and 14 RBIs, while Mary Grace O'Neill (.313) has 22 stolen bases and eight doubles.
- In the circle, Jacqueline Cal (2-10, 4.78 ERA) has earned 21 strikeouts in 70.1 innings, while Kailee Sawai (2-10, 6.24 ERA) has posted 25 strikeouts in 58.1 innings.
- Lafayette is batting .204 as a team and holding opponents to .336 while owning a 37-35 advantage in stolen bases.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 28-0, after sweeping a tightly-contested series at home last season.
- The Terriers run-ruled the Leopards in the first game, 8-0 (6), before pulling out a 4-2 and 3-2 victories.
- In the last trip to Easton, BU swept the series by a combined score of 28-2 in three run-rule decisions.
