April 5, 2024 | Men's Rowing
BOSTON – Returning to the water for the first race in two weeks, the Boston University men's rowing. Program takes on Northeastern on Saturday (April 6) on the Charles River.
The morning begins with the Arlett Cup up for grabs in the Varsity 8 at 7 a.m. The Second Varsity 8 begins at 7:30 a.m., while the Third and Fourth Varsity 8 crews will start at 8 and 8:30 a.m., respectively. Saturday's races will air on ESPN+, beginning at 6:50 a.m.
Weather conditions as of writing are expected to feature temperatures in the low 40s with cloudy skies and chances of scattered showers. Winds are expected to come from the north as high as 12 miles per hour.
BU is fresh off its spring opener at Brown back on March 23. The Bears retained the Michalson Cup en route to four wins on the Seekonk River.
Earlier this week, sophomore Caleb Schwartz was featured on the IRCA's Division I/Division II Heavyweight Athlete Watchlist. He was one of 24 D1 student-athletes recognized with the honor.
Northeastern opened its spring with its sixth-straight Burk Cup in a Varsity 8 win over Penn on March 23. The Huskies then raced Brown, Yale, Harvard, Stanford, and Washington at the IRA Invitational in Sarasota, Fla. last weekend.
BU and Northeastern's Arlett Cup rivalry dates back to 1978. Both crews have faced off against one another since 1966. Northeastern has held the Arlett Cup since 2018, winning four races in that stretch after BU won the previous three. Last year, the Huskies captured wins in the Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8, while the Terriers topped Northeastern in the Third and Fourth Varsity 8 races.
Following Saturday's action, the Terriers take on Holy Cross, Temple, and Marist on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday (April 20).
