No. 3 Lightweight Rowing Posts Two Wins Over No. 4 Stanford
May 12, 2024 | Women's Lightweight Rowing
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The No. 3 Boston University lightweight rowing program wrapped up its final dual race of the spring season with two victories over No. 4 Stanford on Sunday morning at Redwood Shores.
BU picked up two wins in the Double and Four, while the Cardinal were victorious in the Eight. Temperatures eventually reached the lower 70s with overcast conditions, but flat water greeted the rowers in the opening race, and remained that way for a majority of the morning.
In the first race, the Terrier duo of Caroline Burchette and Kylie Lough built a steady lead in the opening 1,000 meters to win in a time of 7:36.1, outpacing Stanford by over 11 seconds.
BU's Lightweight 4+, coxed by Rayna Kuthiala and stroked by Nina Palmer, were ahead by two lengths of open water halfway through the piece, and coasted to a win in 7:24.7 with 16 seconds of room from the Cardinal.
In the Lightweight 8+, coxed by Heather Shinn and stroked by Maecy Rickman, Stanford was up nearly a couple of seats at the midway point. The Cardinal increased their pace to power past the Terriers, who finished in 6:49.0.
The Terriers will close the 2023-24 campaign with the IRA National Championship Regatta, held from May 31 to June 2 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. BU has finished second in the previous two IRAs.
