Sjöberg, Malleck Qualify for NCAA Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS — Junior Vera Sjöberg and graduate student Foster Malleck have qualified for the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the mile run on Friday, March 14 at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex, the NCAA announced Tuesday evening.
Sjöberg will race at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14 in the mile preliminary round, hoping to qualify for a spot in the final on Saturday, March 15 at 3 p.m. Malleck's preliminary mile race is at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 14, and his final would be at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.
This is the first time since 2014 that the Terriers have sent both a male and female competitor to the NCAA Indoor Championships. BU is one of six teams to have male and female athletes competing in the mile.
Sjöberg's top time of the season of 4:28.12 ranks 14th in NCAA DI this season and makes her the 22nd-fastest collegiate miler ever. She ran the time at the Valentine Invitational at the Track & Tennis Center, breaking her own school record.
The Stockholm, Sweden native will be the first Terrier woman to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships since Monica Adler ran the mile in 2014, finishing 8th in 4:40.87.
Malleck finished the indoor season with a mile mark of 3:53.82, making him 16th in NCAA DI this season. He is the 24th-fastest collegiate male miler ever and owns the BU school record after setting that mark at the Terrier DMR Challenge at the TTC.
The Kitchener, Ontario native will be the second Terrier to race at the NCAA Indoor Championships this decade after Toby Makoyawo ran the 200m in 2022. He is the first miler to qualify since Rich Peters in 2014. Peters ran three times at the NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing as high as second in 2012.
The Championships will air live on the ESPN family of networks.
