Terriers Contend With Big Green Amidst Stormy Conditions
April 12, 2025 | Men's Rowing
BOSTON – In a morning that featured steady rain, snow and choppy water, the Boston University men's rowing program competed against Dartmouth in three races on the Charles River on Saturday.
Overnight snow trickled into the first races, only to be replaced with rain and cold temperatures that floated in the lower 30s. Choppy waters even created whitecaps following the final event.
The day began with the Bill Cup in the Varsity 8+. The Terriers, coxed by James Smith and stroked by Jan Koska, matched the Big Green right out of the start. However, Dartmouth expanded the lead to 6-7 seats by the Mass. Ave. Bridge and crossed the line in 5:45.1 while BU finished in 5:58.7.
BU's Second Varsity 8+, coxed by Emily Slawin and stroked by Ali El Sayed, initially trailed Dartmouth by almost a full length halfway through the race. The Terriers increased their rate and gained a few seats in the final push, but the Big Green were victorious in 5:56.2. BU was at 5:58.6.
The Terrier Third Varsity 8+, coxed by Hannah Noguchi and stroked by George Kreidler, squared off against the Big Green's 3V, 4V and 5V crews. Dartmouth was first and second with their 3V and 4V, while BU was third with a time of 6:14.1, 17 and-a-half seconds in front of the Dartmouth 5V.
BU hits the road for the first time this spring when it competes against Temple and Holy Cross next Saturday, April 19, on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
