Men’s Rowing Heads to Lake Morey Invite This Weekend

BOSTON – With the Eastern Sprints and IRA National Championship Regatta looming, the Boston University men's rowing program travels to Fairlee, Vt. for the annual Lake Morey Invite, competing from April 26-27.
During the weekend, the Terriers will compete against four top-20 programs: Columbia, Georgetown, Syracuse and Wisconsin. Three of those feature cup races: the Jablonic Cup (Wisconsin), Lusins Cup (Columbia) and Conlan Cup (Syracuse).
RACE SCHEDULE – APRIL 26
During the weekend, the Terriers will compete against four top-20 programs: Columbia, Georgetown, Syracuse and Wisconsin. Three of those feature cup races: the Jablonic Cup (Wisconsin), Lusins Cup (Columbia) and Conlan Cup (Syracuse).

- 8:10 a.m. – Varsity 8+ vs. Wisconsin (Jablonic Cup)
- 8:40 a.m. – Second Varsity 8+ vs. Wisconsin
- 9:10 a.m. – Third Varsity 8+ vs. Wisconsin & Georgetown
- 9:30 a.m. – Fourth Varsity 8+ vs. Dartmouth (5V)
- 4:10 p.m. – Fourth Varsity 8+ vs. Dartmouth
- 4:20 p.m. – Third Varsity 8+ vs. Syracuse & Georgetown
- 5:00 p.m. – Second Varsity 8+ vs. Columbia
- 5:30 p.m. – Varsity 8+ vs. Columbia (Lusins Cup)
- 8:20 a.m. – Varsity 8+ vs. Syracuse (Conlan Cup)
- 8:50 a.m. – Second Varsity 8+ vs. Syracuse
- 9:10 a.m. – Third Varsity 8+ vs. Syracuse
- 9:30 a.m. – Fourth Varsity 8+ vs. Syracuse
- BU swept the Holy Cross Invite last Saturday, April 19 on Lake Quinsigamond.
- The Varsity 8+ triumphed over top-20 foes Temple and Holy Cross in a time of 6:08.60, over two-and-a-half seconds in front of the runner-up Owls.
- BU's Second Varsity 8+ also won in 6:20.30 with a +7.26 margin over Temple.
- The Third Varsity 8+ sported the largest margin of victory in a time of 6:17.44, with the Crusaders taking second over 14 seconds later.
- BU retained the Jablonic Cup over Wisconsin in the 1V at the 2024 Lake Morey Invite while also defeating Georgetown.
- The Terriers' 2V triumphed over the aforementioned schools while picking up narrow wins over Syracuse and host Dartmouth.
- BU's 3V claimed wins over Wisconsin and Georgetown and the 4V was victorious against Syracuse in two races.
- BU remained in 12th in the IRCA/IRA Varsity 8+ Poll on April 23.
- Syracuse holds the 10th spot.
- Wisconsin sits right behind the Terriers at 13th, while Georgetown is 14th. Both programs were tied at No. 13 last week.
- Columbia is ranked 18th, leapfrogging Holy Cross from a week ago.
- Syracuse most recently swept Cornell and Navy to claim its fifth consecutive Goes Trophy back on April 19 as the Varsity 8 won in 6:07.0.
- Wisconsin will take part in its first races since the Stanford/Cal Invite back on April 5-6. The Badgers' 1V fell to Cal and Stanford but earned a victory over Oregon State.
- Columbia's 1V secured the Collins Cup over Rutgers to start the spring before dropping races to Princeton and Penn on April 12 and the Blackwell Cup against the Quakers and Yale on April 19.
- Georgetown recently completed the Schuylkill Invitational on April 12, where the 1V earned first in both races.
- BU has won eight of the last nine Jablonic Cup races, including two in a row.
- The Terriers vie for their first Conlan Cup since 2019. Syracuse has won four consecutive races in the circuit.
- Columbia and BU will race for the Lusins Cup for the first time since 2019 after the cup's original race in 1980. The Terriers aim for their 10th consecutive win.
- Following the weekend, BU will take part in the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 18 on Lake Quinsigamond.
