BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second time in her standout career, Christy Chen has been named the Patriot League Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league office on Friday. The senior was joined on the Academic All-Patriot League Team by junior Annika Manjunath.
Chen, who earned Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors as a sophomore in 2023, capped a collegiate career with a fourth-straight all-league finish at the Patriot League Championship. She placed sixth as a freshman, won the title as a sophomore, took third as a junior and finished in a tie for seventh at this year's tournament.
For the third straight year, Chen led the Terriers in scoring average, posting a 74.56 with five top-five finishes and eight top-20 performances. She won the UAlbany Great Danes Invitational on Oct. 6, marking the seventh victory of her collegiate career, which is a program record.
She earned her card for the China LPGA Tour following a top-amateur performance at a qualifying tournament at The Dunes on Hainan Island back in January. Chen will join the CLPGA following her graduation in May.
This marks the third straight year that Chen has earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team while Manjunath is a repeat selection after earning the honor as a sophomore.
Manjunath was the team's top finisher at this year's Patriot League Championship, placing fourth for the second consecutive year. She posted a 78.44 scoring average and both of her top-10 finishes came in the final two tournaments of the season.
Chen currently sports a 3.82 cumulative grade-point average as an economics & math major in the College of Arts & Sciences. She will also be completing a master's in economics as part of a dual-degree program.
Manjunath has a 3.81 GPA as a computer science major with minors in computing & data sciences and business administration & management.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
