Terriers Earn Three Gold Medals, Place Second at Eastern Sprints
May 4, 2025 | Women's Lightweight Rowing
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Boston University lightweight rowing program sent all five of its crews to the podium and finished second as a team at the 2025 Eastern Sprints on Sunday afternoon at Lake Quinsigamond.
Â
BU saw three wins in its two Lightweight Double crews and the "B" boat for the Lightweight 4+. The Terriers' top 4+ as well as its Lightweight 8+ secured bronze medals as BU finished just behind Princeton in the Konrad Ulbrich team standings.
Â
Sunday's weather featured overcast skies and negligible wind during racing, with a small rain squall appearing just as the Lightweight 8+ concluded. Temperatures hovered around the high 60s.
Â
BU's day opened with the Lightweight "B" 2x, featuring Chloe Capizzi (bow) and Emilia Vukasinovic (stroke). The BU crew lined up against Wisconsin and went wire-to-wire to capture the win in 8:27.552, over 28 seconds ahead of the Badgers.
Â
The Terrier Lightweight 4+ "B" boat, coxed by Mira Saldanha and stroked by Jasmine Wu, were locked in with the "A" of three Wisconsin crews. The Terriers were able to gain a lead they wouldn't relinquish after the 1,000-meter mark and triumphed in 8:17.854, with the top Badger crew posting a time of 8:19.324.
Â
In the Lightweight 2x event, featuring Kylie Lough (bow) and Sam Angel (stroke), BU executed a strong start in a battle with Princeton for the top spot. The Terriers fended off the Tigers with a time of 8:20.764 for BU's third straight gold medal of the day. Princeton finished in 8:24.684.
Â
BU's top Lightweight 4+, coxed by Heather Shinn and stroked by Cece Mason, locked into a matchup with Wisconsin after Princeton and Harvard-Radcliffe established early leads. The Terriers executed a strong push in the end to overcome the Badgers but ran out of time against the other two crews, placing third in 8:01.849. Princeton was first in 7:57.507 and Radcliffe was the runner-up in 7:59.617.
Â
BU's Lightweight 8+, coxed by Mayberry Mark and stroked by Mia Seibert, closed out the day in a field of six crews. Stanford, making a rare Eastern Sprints appearance, challenged the Terriers for a podium spot as Princeton quickly built a lead. BU outlasted the Cardinal by a few seats to finish third in 6:59.180, under five seconds behind second-place Harvard-Radcliffe and 1.672 seconds in front of fourth-place Stanford.
Â
BU is idle from race competition until the IRA National Championship Regatta, which is set to begin on Friday, May 30 on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
