Terrier Twelve - #9: Men's Track & Field and Cross Country Stays Consistent Near Top of Patriot League

July 16, 2025

Returning for a 17th year, the Terrier Twelve recognizes the top achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Monday and Wednesday this summer as we unveil this year's Terrier Twelve on GoTerriers.com.

Checking in at number nine on the Terrier Twelve is the men's track & field and cross country team, which finished third at each of the cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field Patriot League Championships.

The Terriers kicked off their cross country season with a win at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational and went on to place third at the cross country championships — the 10th straight year the team has finished within the top three spots. Sophomore Karsen Vesty was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team for the season and the team wrapped up its season with its fourth-straight top 15 finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, taking 11th.

During the indoor season, the Terriers rolled to another third place finish at the Patriot League Championships. Graduate student Foster Malleck was the champion of both the mile and 3000m and went on to win Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Freshman Guy Margalit earned a gold medal in the triple jump at his first collegiate conference meet.

Malleck's indoor season would continue to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, as he qualified for the meet in the mile. He ran to a third-place finish in 3:54.42, the best by a Terrier at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2012 and became the 18th indoor First Team All-American in program history and just the second Terrier to earn the honor this century.

Transitioning to the outdoor season, the team once again took third at the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, this time picking up four gold medals.

Senior Steven Franco saved his best for last as he set a meet and school record in the decathlon with 7,289 points, earning a gold medal in the process. Junior Owen Faulha took championed the javelin to win BU's first-ever Patriot League gold medal in the event. In the 100m dash, junior Michael Onilogbo became the fastest man in the Patriot League with a time of 10.41 seconds.

The Terriers also took home gold in the 4x800m with sophomore Karsen Vesty, sophomore Shamiso Sikaneta, freshman Thomas Cowan and junior Parker Schneider all earning First Team All-Patriot League honors for their efforts. Margalit was once again near the top in the triple jump, this time finishing silver but still garnering Patriot League Rookie of the Meet honors.

BU's season finished up at the NCAA East First Rounds, where Schneider, Vesty, Margalit, Faulha, junior Freddy Collins and senior Samuel Roszak all competed.
