Women's Basketball Defeats Colgate, 58-54
January 24, 2026 | Women's Basketball
BOSTON - Seniors Anete Adler and Anastasiia Semenova had 16 points apiece to lead the Boston University women's basketball team to a 56-51 win over Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Case Gym.
Adler, who also led the Terriers with seven rebounds, was 7-for-15 from the floor and hit a clutch free throw in the final minute to give BU a 52-50 lead it never relinquished. Semenova went 6-for-6 at the charity stripe, including four makes in the final 30 seconds to keep the Terriers in front.
Sophomore Rose Azmoudeh had 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting thanks to four 3-pointers, including two clutch triples late in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 47-47 and then give BU a 50-49 lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Hildur Gunnsteinsdóttir drilled a 3-pointer after some nice passing by the Terriers before Adler hit a jumper to give BU an 18-12 advantage early in the second quarter.
- Colgate responded with an 8-0 run to take a 20-18 lead with 4:50 left in the half, but BU responded with a triple from Azmoudeh and another Adler jumper to regain the lead and eventually take a 26-24 advantage into the locker room.
- The Raiders went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc at the start of the second half to take a 33-29 lead, but the Terriers answered with buckets by Bella McLaughlin and Semenova to tie the score at 33-33.
- BU regained the lead at 37-35 thanks to a nice transition layup as junior Bella McLaughlin found Azmoudeh with a long pass, but the Raiders quickly responded to create a 37-37 score.
- Adler opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back buckets to extend the Terriers' lead to 43-39.
- Colgate fought back and eventually Ella Meabon hit a 3-pointer with 3:37 left to put the Raiders in front, 47-44.
- Azmoudeh answered immediately with a trey of her own to tie the score.
- Then, after a pair of Colgate free throws, junior Aoibhe Gormley grabbed an offensive rebound and kicked it back out to Azmoudeh for a 3-pointer that gave BU a 50-49 edge with 2:20 to play.
- A Colgate free throw made it 50-50 with 1:02 to play, but Adler went 1-for-2 at the line with 44.1 seconds left to restore the Terriers' lead.
- Azmoudeh then forced an errant inbound attempt by Colgate to give the Terriers the ball back with 34.1 on the clock.
- Adler went 1-for-2 at the line again, but Gormley came down with another clutch board to set the stage for two free throws from Semenova that made it a 54-50 game.
- After more free throws from Semenova pushed the lead to 56-51, Meabon hit a last-second 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 56-54, but McLaughlin ended the game with a pair of free throws.
- The Terriers made just 38.5 percent of their shots while Colgate shot under 40 percent from the field as well.
- Colgate led in rebounds, 36-28, and second-chance points, 16-11.
- BU sported the advantages in points off turnovers (15-3), paint points (22-18) and bench points (20-14).
- For the second straight home game, the Terriers led by one possession after the first three quarters.
- Gunnsteinsdóttir paced BU in assists for the second consecutive matchup, dishing out three with zero turnovers.
- Adler has reached double digits in seven of her eight Patriot League contests. She has led BU in scoring in 11 of 19 games this year.
- Semenova has scored 10 or more points in four straight games for the first time in her career. She is dropping 11.6 points per Patriot League contest.
- Azmoudeh moves into a tie with junior Inés Monteagudo Pardo for the Terrier lead with 29 three-pointers this season. BU is 3-0 when she makes four-plus triples in a game.
- The Terriers have won consecutive games for the first time since Nov. 11-15, 2025.
- BU improves to 21-12 all-time against Colgate.
- The Terriers head to Navy on Wednesday (Jan. 28). Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.
