Terriers Sustain 62-51 Home Loss to Bison

BOSTON – The Boston University women's basketball program dropped a 62-51 contest to Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Case Gym.
BU (7-14, 3-7 PL) succumbed to 12 first-half turnovers that turned into 13 points for the Bison (7-14, 3-7 PL), who went on to shoot nearly 47 percent from the field for the game.
Senior Anete Adler was the lone Terrier in double figures with 12 points, adding five assists and two blocks. Overall, eight different Terriers found the bottom of the basket.
Tuana Coskun led all scorers with 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting. Desirae Ashton added a season-high 14 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Each team made four of its first eight shots in the game. Junior Aoibhe Gormley buried a left-wing three-pointer to give BU a one-point at the 6:07 mark before Isabella Casey stuck a floater on Bucknell's next possession.
- Gormley found sophomore Rose Azmoudeh for a three to put the Terriers up 16-13, but the Bison then rattled off a 15-0 run over the next five minutes. Ashton scored the final10 points in the run for a 28-16 Bison lead with 7:17 to go in the second.
- Junior Inés Monteagudo Pardo simultaneously halted Bucknell's burst and started BU's own 9-0 run with a pair of threes to help the Terriers pull within 28-25.
- Adler brought the Terriers within five points on two separate layups, but Bucknell went into halftime ahead 39-29 following Coskun's triple and Ashton's second-chance layup in the final 1:21 of the half.
- Bucknell utilized a 10-2 run over the course of five minutes in the third quarter as Ella Kreuzer knocked down a pair of threes; the second extended the lead to 49-34.
- Junior Bella McLaughlin whittled the gap to 11 points at the end of the third quarter, securing an offensive rebound and feeding Adler for a layup before hitting her own driving bucket in the final seconds to make it 49-38.
- Coskun put Bucknell back up 12 on a contested stepback jumper, but BU countered with seven straight points. Among those included McLaughlin's halfcourt steal for a layup and a corner three on Adler's outlet pass, the latter pulling the Terriers within 51-46 with 7:31 left in regulation.
- The Terriers did not score in the next 7:01, however. Coskun sank three baskets while Kreuzer nailed another three. Reese Zemitis' turnaround jumper punctuated the 11-0 Bison run at 62-46 with 1:38 to play.
- BU made 45.5 percent of its shots but were just 6-for-22 (27.3 percent) from distance.
- Bucknell shot 47.3 percent while hitting nine three-pointers.
- Overall, the Bison generated 19 points from 18 Terrier turnovers.
- Rebounds (34-23) and paint points (26-22) favored the Terriers.
- Senior Anastasiia Semenova led BU with six boards.
- Adler has scored 12 or more points in nine of her 10 Patriot League appearances this season.
- BU falls to 1-4 at home during Patriot League play.
- Bucknell improves to 16-7 all-time against the Terriers.
- BU quickly turns around and visits Holy Cross on Monday (Feb. 2) to open a Turnpike Trophy doubleheader on CBS Sports Network. Opening tip is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
