HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior captain Bella McLaughlin scored the game-tying basket with 2.3 seconds left in regulation then unleashed 11 points in overtime to lift the Boston University women's basketball program to a 77-70 victory over Colgate on Wednesday evening at Cotterell Court.
BU (9-14, 5-10 PL) led by as many as 16 points before the Raiders (6-20, 2-13 PL) stormed back in the fourth quarter. However, the Terriers outscored Colgate 12-5 as McLaughlin sank a pair of go-ahead layups before sealing the win with a nostalgic three-point play.
McLaughlin finished with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Senior Anastasiia Semenova dropped 14 points and six rebounds. Junior Inés Monteagudo Pardo added 11 first-half points and six assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Monteagudo started the game with a three-pointer 1:08 in, then sophomore Hildur Gunnsteinsdóttir nailed two of her own to put BU ahead 11-6 midway through the opening quarter.
- The junior and sophomore Rose Azmoudeh buried two more triples to give the Terriers five in the quarter and a 17-8 lead after 10 minutes.
- BU scored on three of its first five second-quarter possessions on two free throws from McLaughlin, senior Anete Adler's layup and junior Audrey Ericksen's right-wing three to extend the lead to 24-12.
- Sophomore Taylor Williams stuck a left-elbow jumper, then classmate Allison Schwertner and Semenova hit layups for six consecutive Terrier points, boosting the lead to 33-17 at the 2:53 mark in the second.
- Williams' runner handed BU its largest lead of the first half, 39-23, before Meabon got a jumper to go before the second quarter concluded as the Terriers went into the locker room up 14 points.
- After the Raiders scored the first four points in the third quarter, Semenova got a hook shot to fall, McLaughlin converted a driving layup and Semenova banked in another layup for six consecutive Terrier points and a 45-29 advantage with 6:32 on the timer.
- From that point, however, Colgate ended the quarter on a 14-3 extended run, trimming the Terrier edge to 48-43 after three quarters.
- BU nursed a five-point edge on multiple occasions with Williams' floater and two Gunnsteinsdóttir free throws. However, Schiller and Meabon drilled consecutive three-pointers to give Colgate its first lead of the night, 53-52, with 7:34 left in regulation.
- Semenova and McLaughlin sandwiched Grace Klag's foul line-extended jumper as the clock ticked under four minutes to level the score. Lara Cook made a three-pointer with 3:16 on the timer to hand Colgate a 60-57 advantage.
- Colgate led by five, 64-59, with 1:50 remaining. Semenova and Schwertner pulled the Terriers within one a minute later. Meabon made one of two foul shots with less than 12 seconds left before McLaughlin drove into the paint and stuck a runner to send the game to overtime.
- The junior drove through the lane at the 3:19 mark in overtime to put BU on top, 68-67. Meabon canned a jumper on the next play, only for McLaughlin to counter with another driving layup for a 70-69 Terrier lead.
- Meabon could not connect on a three-pointer and neither did Gunnsteinsdóttir, but McLaughlin forced a held ball on the rebound chance. She then worked the left baseline and stuck a floater while drawing contact, hitting the free throw to make it 73-69 with 1:07 left. She later made four more foul shots herself.
- BU made nearly 52 percent of their shots while shooting 7-for-17 from deep. All seven triples came in the first half.
- Colgate finished the game shooting under 37 percent while making only seven of their 27 three-point tries.
- Both teams finished with 32 rebounds.
- The Terriers sported a 38-18 advantage in paint points and 16-12 edge in points off turnovers.
- BU led for 33:49 in the game.
- McLaughlin's outing was her first with 20-plus points in her collegiate tenure. She is averaging 17 points on over 57 percent shooting in her last three appearances.
- Semenova has made 25 of her last 38 shots (65.7 percent). She has scored 15.5 points in four games since Feb. 7.
- Monteagudo moved into first place in the Patriot League with a .431 three-point percentage this season. She is shooting over 60 percent from distance across her last three contests.
- Adler returned to the starting lineup following a two-game absence.
- BU scored 39 points in the first half, the most against a Division I foe this season.
- The Terriers won their first overtime game since an 83-80 victory over Northeastern back on Dec. 22, 2023. BU's last regular season, overtime win in Patriot League play was back on Jan. 25, 2020, a 76-70 triumph over Holy Cross.
- In sweeping the regular season series, the Terriers improve to 22-12 all-time against Colgate.
- BU returns to Boston to open a three-game homestand against Lehigh on Saturday (Feb. 21). Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
