Matt Garber (Questrom'22, MET'23) - Men's Lacrosse
March 2, 2026 | General, Men's Lacrosse
- Helped men's lacrosse to its first Patriot League title in 2022
- As a senior, named a USILA Honorable Mention All-American and Scholar All-American
- 2022 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year
- Currently serves as a healthcare transaction advisor at Physician Growth Partners
- Why did you choose to attend BU? "I chose to attend BU for its strong academic reputation, its great location in the heart of Boston, and to join its up-and-coming lacrosse program. The combination of the great education I received through Questrom and MET, being positioned in a city with lots of fun and interesting things to offer and helping build a relatively new program to a national contender turned out to be everything I had hoped for in my college experience."
- What did you enjoy most about your BU experience? "If you asked me when I was 20, I may have said going out in Fenway after a hard-fought conference win. In retrospect, I most enjoyed going through the many accomplishments and setbacks with my teammates that are fundamentally part of being a student athlete. Everything we experienced together made us closer and was paramount for building a strong foundation of what success looks like both as an athlete and as a person after graduation. The most enjoyable single moment of my BU experience was winning our first Patriot League championship in my senior year. Not just because it's fun to win against a rival team and celebrate, but also because this was the culmination of thousands of hours of hard work by hundreds of BU lacrosse players over the better part of a decade, which was extremely rewarding to see come to fruition."
- How did your time at BU prepare you to get to where you are today? "Being a student-athlete at BU really honed my work ethic and helped me become great at balancing important, high-pressure situations without compromising performance, complaining, or getting overwhelmed. If you have a midterm the morning after a rivalry matchup night game, you could complain about it and get all pouty, sacrificing the best outcome for both, or you can decide to perform as well as possible on each. While that is a rarer example, in general, the resilience, work ethic, and commitment to whatever task is at hand I learned as an athlete at BU has really lent itself well in the early innings of my career in investment banking."
- Why is it meaningful for you to be involved with the University, Athletics, and Terrier Lacrosse as an alumnus? "As someone who has been given so many resources, lessons, and opportunities by our alumni throughout my experience at BU, it's a great feeling to be on the other side of the fence helping student athletes who are in the same shoes I was in several years ago. It's been meaningful to mentor the next generation on navigating school, sports, or their careers, and I plan on continuing to do so as I progress in my career."
