Terriers Dominate in Spring Opener Against Cornell, Colgate, George Washington

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Boston University women's rowing program started the 2026 season with races against Cornell, Colgate and George Washington on Cayuga Lake on Saturday. The Terriers battled through gusty wind, snow and various other weather conditions to win all eight races it rowed in on Cayuga Lake.
In the morning against Cornell, the Varsity 8+ got things started with a time of 7:05.1. The boat, coxed by Sydney Caragher and stroked by sophomore Raylynn Boston, finished nearly five seconds ahead of the Big Red. The Second Varsity 8+ competed in a close race but earned the win with a time of 7:06.1. The boat was coxed by senior Maya Wiisanen and stroked by freshman Marta Carfagni.
The Varsity 4+, coxed by Laura Leong and stroked by Ruthie Wix, was next and finished in 7:50.37 for its first win of the day. In the Second Varsity 4+, BU raced to a time of 8:07.4 to complete the morning sweep against the Big Red. That boat was coxed by Molly Bernardo and stroked by Anna Woodside.
In the afternoon, the Terriers competed against George Washington, Colgate and Cornell. The Varsity 8+ raced against Colgate, turning in a time of 6:54.9 to go two-for-two on race wins on the day. The Second Varsity 8+ finished in 7:23.5, finishing about 32 seconds ahead of Colgate.
The Varsity 4+ continued to dominate in the afternoon, finishing in 8:25.2 which was 39 seconds ahead of Patriot League foe Colgate. In the final race of the day, BU battled in the Second Varsity 4+ in a tight race with George Washington and Cornell. The Terriers were a few seats behind George Washington in the beginning of the race before they pulled ahead to complete their perfect day, winning in a time of 8:19.2.
BU returns home to the Charles River on Saturday (April 4) when it faces Northeastern for the Council Cup.
