May 29, 2026 | General
BOSTON - The Boston University Department of Athletics set academic highs in impressive fashion for 2025-26 as the student-athlete body broke records for both semester (3.49 in Spring 2026) and school year (3.46) grade-point averages.
These marks topped the previous semester standard of 3.44, set in Spring 2025 and matched in Fall 2025, and the 3.43 school year record set in 2024-25.
All 24 varsity programs earned a GPA 3.0 or above for the year with women's golf leading the way at 3.81, boosted by a department-best 3.87 in the spring. Amongst men's teams, tennis was tops for the year with a 3.52 while men's rowing had the best spring with a 3.58. Men's basketball had the largest improvement from the fall of any program, raising its average by 0.33.
After posting a 3.44 department GPA in the fall, this marks the third straight year that BU Athletics has been over a 3.4 in both semesters of an academic year. BU student-athletes have now combined for a GPA of 3.2 or higher in 19 straight semesters.
Over 88 percent of the student-athlete body had a GPA of 3.0 or above for the spring semester. Additionally, 55 student-athletes finished with a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring.
Twenty-five members of the senior class graduated with honors, led by three with summa cum laude accolades. Susan Shobeiri of women's soccer had the top GPA among student-athletes in the class with a perfect 4.0.
